Industry Academia Interaction

Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Ajay Kumar Garg Engineering College Ghaziabad has conducted a 100 hours training program to employees of a well-known company Ghaziabad Precision Products Limited(GPP) on the topic “Essentials of Electrical & Electronics Engineering”. GPP along with its parter “Aradex, Germany” is offering Motors, Controllers(Inverters) and DC-DC Converters for use in High Voltage Electric Power Train for Electric Vehicles(EVs) and Electric Construction Machinery.

The training program includes fundamentals of test and measuring instruments, single phase and three phase ac supply system, basics of dc circuits, semiconductor devices, power electronics converters, various motors, batteries and drives used in Electric Vehicles such as Switched Reluctance Motor Drive, BLDC Motor Drive and Induction Motor Drives. This program also covers demonstrations and hardware implementation of the topics covered in theory.

The key topics and components covered in the training program are:

1. Fundamentals of Test and Measuring Instruments: Participants will learn about various instruments used for measuring electrical and electronic parameters. This knowledge is essential for proper testing and analysis in the field of electrical and electronics engineering.

2. Single Phase and Three Phase AC Supply System: Understanding both single-phase and three-phase AC systems is fundamental in electrical engineering, as these are commonly used in various applications, including electric vehicles and industrial machinery.

3. Basics of DC Circuits: The program covers the fundamentals of direct current (DC) circuits, which are crucial for understanding the operation of many electrical and electronic devices.

4. Semiconductor Devices: Participants will learn about semiconductor devices such as diodes, transistors, MOSFET, IGBT and thyristors. These devices are essential components in electronic circuits and power electronics.

5. Power Electronics Converters: Power electronics is a key area in electrical engineering, especially for applications like electric vehicles. Topics may include converters like inverters, rectifiers, and DC-DC converters, which are crucial for controlling electrical power in Electric Vehicles.

6. Various Motors: Different types of motors used in electric vehicles will be covered, including Switched Reluctance Motors, BLDC (Brushless DC) Motors, and Induction Motors. Understanding motor types and their applications is vital for designing electric powertrains.

7. Batteries: Knowledge of batteries, especially lithium-ion batteries commonly used in electric vehicles, is crucial. Participants may learn about battery technologies, management systems, and charging/discharging principles.

The EV CoE represents a step towards future-ready engineering education, equipping students with knowledge and skills essential for thriving in the fast-evolving EV ecosystem.

Successful Completion of the first Electric Vehicle Summer Internship Program (24th June–29th July 2025) in Electric Vehicle Centre of Excellence

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Ajay Kumar Garg Engineering College (AKGEC), Ghaziabad, through its Electric Vehicle Centre of Excellence, successfully conducted a 5-week Summer Internship Program on Electric Vehicles from 24th June to 29th July 2025.

The internship recorded the participation of 27 students, including 15 from AKGEC and 12 from ABES Engineering College, all of whom completed the internship successfully. The participation reflected strong inter-institutional academic collaboration between the two institutions.

Program Structure and Learning Modules
The internship was meticulously designed to provide industry-relevant, lab-oriented exposure in the domain of electric mobility. The program covered both theoretical foundations and extensive hands-on sessions through the following structured modules:

• Module 1: EV Fundamentals
o Overview of electric vehicle architecture and e-mobility ecosystem
• Module 2: EV Components & Subsystems
o EV cut-out workbench
o 8-channel cell charging and discharging systems
• Module 3: Drive Train, Harness & Conversion Kit
o Two-wheeler EV harness and fault diagnosis
o Retrofitting of ICE vehicles to electric using conversion kits
o Four-wheeler EV drivetrain with data acquisition
• Module 4: Battery Prototyping & Communication
o Battery Management Systems (BMS) with CAN protocols
o Battery chemistry and safety aspects (NMC and LFP cells)
• Module 5: Hybrid & 3-Wheeler Platforms
o Series and parallel hybrid vehicle architectures
o Three-wheeler EV workbench and servicing
• Module 6: Final Project Output
o Mini-project or technical paper involving system design and analysis

Hands-on Learning and Assessment

The internship emphasized experiential learning, enabling students to work directly on EV platforms, battery systems, power converters, and drivetrain assemblies. Session-wise quizzes were conducted to assess conceptual understanding, in which the participants demonstrated commendable performance. In addition, study projects were assigned to reinforce learning and promote analytical and problem-solving skills. The program culminated in project presentations, where students showcased their learning outcomes and technical competence.

Awards and Recognition
Based on overall performance, project quality, attendance, and evaluation marks, cash awards were presented to the best-performing interns, recognizing their dedication and excellence throughout the program.

Outcome
The internship significantly enhanced participants’ practical skills, system-level understanding, and industry readiness in electric vehicle technologies, aligning with the growing demand for skilled professionals in the e-mobility sector.
